Group Interview
Interview
The first round was a hirevue I got after no networking. It consisted of 10 questions that were basic behaviorals. Think TMAY, Tell me a time when, why SPT, why RE, and 1 or 2 markets questions.
After a few weeks I heard back about an online interview with 1 analyst and 1 associate. This interview was a mix of behavioral, markets and technicals. Basic behavioral, things like walk through each asset class, rank cap rates, how would you invest 100mm.
1 or 2 days later I heard about the 2nd round which was another interview with 1 analyst and 1 associate. Similar structure and questions to the first round.

A few days after that I received the Superday. This was 3 interviews with MD's and VP's back to back. Almost all behavioral.

Know what is going on in the markets and how it applies to each asset class. Know it 2 or 3 levels deeper than you think you need to know it.
Interview Questions
None of the questions were unexpected. What made the interview difficult was the follow up questions after the initial. For example... How would you invest 100mm if you can do it in only 2 assets? I said data centers and strip malls. Then they asked what are supply constraints, demand constraints, why wouldn't you invest, metrics used to value, how would this market be valued vs that, etc.

They asked a bit about real estate debt. If you increase leverage what happens to returns, what would the IR be on this, debt yield, dscr, etc.

They also asked. What is a question that you wished we asked you about.

Also asked about a current event in CRE markets and what sources you use to find information.

Interview
Applied online, had networked with some alumni previously. Got a hirevue from them shortly after submitting the application, and then moved to the 1 on 1 interview. Interview was all behavioral, focused on fit. Strong emphasis on "why real estate" - my interviewer said that they intend to hire all of their interns full time. Had a nice conversation, but did not move forward. Be prepared to explain why Starwood, and why you plan on continuing with a career in real estate.

Personality Test
Interview
Initial phone interview was general and personable. It appeared to be a gauge of personality fit with some round about means to check for IQ & curiosity in the space. Had a follow up technical interview. Internship was 10 weeks, and full time offers appeared to be given based on manager review, HR's view of cultural fit, and successful completion of a final project/presentation.
