Please describe the interview / hiring process.
I initially contacted an alumni MD at the firm telling I am a sophomore at a target school majoring in Economics with a 3.96 GPA. I did not have any financial experience, and never even had a job at a financial services firm. I go to a target school but I am in the Arts and Science school, not the business school. I told him I was making a career transition and that I am really interested in the industry. He asked me to send him my resume through email. I heard back about a week later to set up a phone interview. The phone interview was with an analyst and did not go so well. There were questions about financial statements and why I never took an accounting class if I go to this target school. I told him that I was unfortunately do not have experience with this but am a quick learner. I explained the quantitative skills I gained through prior experiences. Any one interview make sure you are ready for the amount of technical questions even if they are simple for the majority of applicants, if you never had any experience look it up online. Another tip is to look up the school when you cold call, I feel MDs are more willing to help students from their institutions.
