Presentation
Please describe the interview / hiring process.
I was initially contacted by a third-party recruiter, who screened me based on my experience and current role before forwarding my profile to the hiring PM.
The interview process consisted of two rounds with senior members of the team, followed by a case study. For the case study, I was asked to pitch a long/short pair of my choosing, which I then presented in a one-hour debrief with the same senior investors.
The interviews covered a mix of behavioral and technical topics. On the behavioral side, questions focused on my background, upbringing, hobbies, and current role. On the technical side, we discussed investment pitches, as well as my broader investment philosophy, due diligence approach, and idea generation process.
Following the case study debrief, I was given additional time to ask questions and received some feedback. That said, I got the impression that neither investor was particularly engaged with the pitch itself.
Each interviewer also allocated time for my questions more broadly, which helped me better understand their backgrounds, the firm’s culture, the pod’s strategy, and its future direction.
My overall impression was that I may have been slightly junior for the role. The process itself felt relatively unstructured and shorter than at other multi-manager platforms, but having direct access to the hiring PMs from the outset was valuable.
In terms of culture, both interviewers were fair and professional, and the environment they conveyed felt cordial and collaborative, albeit somewhat reserved. I also came away with the view that Verition operates with a high degree of PM autonomy, allowing individual portfolio managers to run their strategies independently, likely a key factor in attracting experienced talent from other platforms.
Compensation was not discussed directly, as I did not receive an offer. However, I heard anecdotally that a recent candidate declined an offer from the same pod for a Sub-PM type role that included a $200k base and a $100m initial carve-out.
