Please describe the interview / hiring process.
As described in the earlier PE interview post, this process started with a cold call that turned into a short interview.

If you are reading this to get background info, recommend you read the PE one first to avoid confusion!

After sitting through an hour or so with the two MDs, the one that focused primarily on PE (and had come in late to begin with) left. The remaining MD was one of the founders of the firm and shifted the conversation to banking. I got the impression that he didn't like the fact that I had essentially the same reason for wanting to pursue banking as PE because he hesitated and changed his facial expression slightly when I gave the answer. We talked about providing advice to companies and how to learn in the industry as an intern/first year analyst. THERE WERE NO MORE TECHNICAL QUESTIONS. It honestly seemed like the guy was a little bored and just wanted to keep me there. We somehow got on the subject of his kids and by that point I knew the interview was clearly going downhill because I couldn't redirect it back to me.

Overall, the turnaround between interviews was a little weird, but it was a great learning experience. If you notice below...I rated the interview as "difficult" solely because I had no idea how to react once we really started getting on tangents.
