Simply put, as a company gets more reviews, the confidence of a "true score" increases so it is pulled closer to its simple average and away from the average of the entire dataset.

Interview
As described in the earlier PE interview post, this process started with a cold call that turned into a short interview.

If you are reading this to get background info, recommend you read the PE one first to avoid confusion!

After sitting through an hour or so with the two MDs, the one that focused primarily on PE (and had come in late to begin with) left. The remaining MD was one of the founders of the firm and shifted the conversation to banking. I got the impression that he didn't like the fact that I had essentially the same reason for wanting to pursue banking as PE because he hesitated and changed his facial expression slightly when I gave the answer. We talked about providing advice to companies and how to learn in the industry as an intern/first year analyst. THERE WERE NO MORE TECHNICAL QUESTIONS. It honestly seemed like the guy was a little bored and just wanted to keep me there. We somehow got on the subject of his kids and by that point I knew the interview was clearly going downhill because I couldn't redirect it back to me.

Overall, the turnaround between interviews was a little weird, but it was a great learning experience. If you notice below...I rated the interview as "difficult" solely because I had no idea how to react once we really started getting on tangents.
Interview Questions
During the first 5 minutes of the interview he asked me to "evaluate my resume from my [read: his] perspective". This didn't happen in the first interview so I was not ready for it at all and fumbled with it a little. General advice: it seems like they wanted to keep me guessing without being unfair, so that might have been why he did that. It's not a hard question, but when it comes over an hour into the interview process you just aren't ready for it at all.

Interview
The cold call I made turned into a brief phone interview when I was transferred to an MD. Typical banking stuff...3 statements linking, cash vs. accrual, etc. Lasted maybe 10 minutes. The guy liked me and it led to 2 interviews: one for their PE side and one for I-banking. The I-banking one will be listed separately to avoid confusion.

Second/final round was with 2 MDs (one came in about 10 minutes into the interview due to a call). First couple questions were really technical...ways to value a company, how a DCF works in principle/explain it to a 5th grader. Then they noticed my musical hobbies (one MD played upright bass) and we spent almost the next hour talking about jazz and classic rock. Maybe one more technical question the rest of the time. Very odd interview.
Interview Questions
The "explain a DCF simply/to a 5th grader" (can't remember the exact wording) caught me off guard. I remember getting redirected after saying the word "discounting" and even had to explain what that meant. Wasn't too difficult, just a little tedious.
