Advice on Assessing Job Security
Recently started a job at a single manager L/S fund and love everything about the team. However, the fund had a rocky 2021 and is now having a shaky start to 2022 as well. As an analyst, especially a new one, I don’t have much visibility into fund politics and am pretty insulated from LPs. Prior to this, there’s been 5+ years of outperformance but not sure how much that matters in today’s environment; we’re still technically doing better than our sector peers and benchmark, but being down in any capacity seems scary in these turbulent times. Anyone have an idea of what job and fund security looks like, and what’s the margin of error here on performance? As much as I told myself I can always get recruited to another fund and still get inbounds in my email, I don’t think I’ll find another team and culture I like as much as this one.
