Can I jump from IB to HF without doing a PE stint?
Question above is what I am thinking. In my third year at a sweaty MM. I really enjoy the public markets and find the work more intellectually rewarding than banking. Nothing against banking just sometimes get bored running the same processes. I am curious if I can go directly from IB to a L/S fund? Any advice? Do I wait for recruiters? I know it may not be traditional but am curious to see if there is a direct path or not and if I could even make the move considering I’m at a middle market firm and not a larger elite boutique, bb, etc. Has anyone made a previous jump or have any advice?
I apologize if this has been asked before
Could wait for the associate promo but am thinking more long term what I’d rather do
Actively reach out to HH and express interesting in opptys, reach out to BDs at MMHFs. IB to HF is totally doable
This is the normal path. Doing PE isn’t a set thing
Can someone chime in on this: would direct exits to HFs from a Roth/Gugg/Jeff, or exits to HFs from one of those banks --> MM PE be better. Thanks.
Depends on type of hedge fund.
MM’s it’s not going to matter as much
