For a prop trading/quant firm like SIG/Jane Street, are those categorized as HFs generally?

Was just curious, because I know a lot of these quant and prop funds (such as DE Shaw, Citadel, SIG, Jane Street, Beldevere,, etc) have a traditional fundamental research group and was wondering which group people grouped them with. Are they considered hedge funds or just "trading firms."
