Ghosted by SM HFs
I go to a solid target and have a few relevant experiences but I keep getting ghosted by HFs when i cold email for any summer opportunities or internships, even those that have previously accepted interns.
Any tips to improve response rate?
It may help to attach a pitch and/or a model to showcase your abilities. It sounds like you have the background to be eligible but most of these places recruit interns on an ad hoc basis so you have to be lucky with timing too.
I have oftentimes, but i got responses from HR like 50-60% of the time saying they're not looking for interns, but to contact them in the future later in my career when looking for an analyst/associate seat.
What types of SMs have you been reaching out to? No matter how qualified you think you are, if they were high flying SMs, very slim chance.
Plus, you might feel like you’re doing a favor by offering a free labor, but interns are dilutive for time 1) they have to spare to teach/mentor you 2) having to check all your work. So be aware of this when reaching out/networking.
