How closely should pitch fit fund mandate?

Obviously, I will pitch value to value, growth to growth, etc. But how about pitching a domestic company to an international fund? Or pitching a small cap to a large cap fund?

For reference, this is for post undergrad associate roles at long only funds. Thanks!
