Weiss Asset Management Summer 25
Sophomore at a top target, interested in updated thoughts on Weiss going into junior recruiting season. Anyone know if you have to network for these guys? Comp, industry perception, WLB, learning/mentorship all of interest.
N of 1 so don't generalize this across the entire fund but friend of a friend was given a jr PM seat and after 3 months shown the door. Book didn't blow up or even lose money - apparently sr PM has a history of bringing guys on and ditching them if it doesn't work out right away. My understanding before that was it was a slightly (relative to the worst pod shops not in general) less cutthroat.
Is this an experience about Weiss Multi-Strategy Advisors (NYC) or Weiss Asset Management (Boston)? Weiss Asset Management is not really a pod shop with Jr. PM seats and sleeves. Most of the investment analysts come from the internship program and most of the PMs come from that analyst pool.
Know several who interned there.
Seniors care about output far more than face time - one friend said he was doing ~60 over the summer. Obviously a less-structured experience than a MM, but it sounds like the type of kids who are successful in a role like that out of undergrad don't need the structure. Most of the kids who are successful there end up staying for the long haul (almost all the seniors joined as interns / analysts).
Comp is well above market. Can be 350+ all-in for new hires.
anyone know if this is open to freshman as well as sophomores?
