I’m starting to think you and your friend might be the same person
I'd go Evercore Menlo. Have heard great things about the culture there. Most of the analysts and associates I know of live in SF and commute. The drive isn't that bad really. Exits are great too. Comp is higher than MS by a good amount. I wouldn't let intern overtime pay sway your opinion.
MS LA is an absolute sweatshop and culture is a bit rough. I knew a few kids who worked there before b-school and no one had good things to say really. Exits I know from there are more entertainment focused but also good.
If your friend wants to work in tech, Evercore is definitely the move here.
