Very worried about background check!
I got an IB SA offer in London, but now I’m worried about something on my CV. I listed some freelancing projects from college, but to be frank, I overstated what I did. I also don’t have any proof of work, no email chains, no tax records filed, and the PayPal account I got money through is lost. Pretty dumb move to include this, I know, but what's done is done.
It wasn’t that important overall, but I’m not sure if I should have included it in the background check form. If I left it out, would that be an issue? If I did mention it, how do they even verify the work?
I’m so confused on how you don’t even have an email chain. How can you freelance if you don’t have emails asking for meeting times or going back and forth on work or even an intro email outlining the project. It honestly sounds like you made the whole thing up. To actually answer your question, when I was background checked I had to provide proof of dates & proof of work, including listing supervisor name & email and tax forms. For unpaid work, email chains were ok. I tbh don’t know what ur gonna do except hope. This was for the US maybe London is chill
All communication was done over phone/whatsapp which is why I have no email chains. No reason to make it up when I'm anon, though I see why you might think that.
Agree. Nothing to worry. If they reach out to verify, have one of your siblings ready to vouch for you.. ie pass their email/cell number to background check company and tell your siblings to act as your clients/customers/co-worker
I had a background check company ask for verification of a college club once. They are definitely less strict on unpaid stuff but it's a bit luck of the draw sometimes.
I would exclude it from the background check form, if they ask why it's excluded, note it was unpaid and see if they follow up.
