TAS offer but have an app on the side

Hi monkeys,

I got a TAS offer at a big 4 for an analyst position, but I have second thoughts.

It has been almost two years since I taught myself how to code, and now I can build most kinds of web apps, whether it's a marketplace or a Saas. I even have an app on the side ready to be launched (and 2 to 3 more ideas ready to be built).

I didn't apply to TAS because I wanted a chance to IB or PE. It's more about having a career in finance and working within a team. Learning and building an app was great during the last two years, but I felt lonely. Being a solopreneur is not for everyone and thinking about everything, from design to features, coding stuff, and marketing, is challenging. Still, it also puts a lot of mental stress and forces you to spend a lot of time on it (from 10 to 14 hours a day).

As you may imagine, I hesitate to get the job or launch the app since doing both will be very difficult.

Anyway, I know I am not supposed to rely on anyone for choosing my path, but I would be very interested to know if

  • I can leverage the offer with another company a few months later
  • Hybrid work could let me handle both
  • Many people have side gigs in this industry

Thanks!

if you can scale, keep at it. maybe delay launch, soft launch, stealth mode it.

i dont work in TAS big 4, but know it can easily be done WFH so see if your team allows it / hybrid

after 6 months dont see why you cant easily get some 2-3 day part time / remote work in standard corporate finance team that will easily let you focus on app whilst still having guaranteed income stream
