Changing sector focus - London PE
Unfortunately, did not get my top priority during group placement process. I just don't see myself in this sector in the long-term!
Is it possible to change sectors while exiting (e.g. Industrials IB to Healthcare PE) without switching to the desired coverage group while still in IB? My studies are also a bit more geared towards the sector I would like to be in.
I got placed in one of the top groups at my BB. No complaints about deal flow and size. It's neither cap markets nor a niche sector like O&G or RE but fairly vanilla if that helps.
How do you do the switch once exit recruiting becomes available? Planning to target MFs and UMMs.
Yes. You can either target specific groups (e.g., Apax TMT) or you can target generalist programs.

Is this more an "either-or" decision or can you target both specialist and generalist programs?
Is the transition difficult to do in the UMM/MF spectrum? Do relevant touchpoints with the envisaged sector from undergrad help in spinning a convincing narrative?
