Isn't this always a cash out play rather than get access to public funding though? IPOs are close to the only way for the founders to monetize their stake in such a company

Anyone else find this trend a bit short-sighted / selfish of the current founders / shareholders? The private partnership setup is great for future partners, and I’d argue there are a bunch of downsides to being public as an investment firm. At the end of the day, I’d always prefer to work for a privately owned fund vs public.

I get the current partners cash out and can’t blame anyone for doing that, but just seems like a not great trend for the industry

Spot on. Makes it less attractive to partners that come later because you'd always have to share the pie with public shareholders rather than dividing the pie between the partners...

Boomers don't care about future partners, they just want to cash out and fuck future generations

It's especially ironic of all companies that these private equity firms are going public

The whole premise of the industry is that companies can maximize long-term potential privately rather than under the scrutiny of public markets

They should first clear up what they did to Grace Kim, publicly apologize and compensate her. Grace should have interviews with the media to have her story heard.

GA needs to treat their employees fairly. Their IPO is likely not going to perform well because of the way they treated Grace Kim when she was at General Atlantic.
