IB in NYC -> London PE?

Hey WSO!

I am an international student who is an incoming IB analyst at a top BB (GS/MS). 
Given the restrictions placed on h1b and general uncertainties surrounding the immigration laws, I was wondering if it would be possible for me to recruit for a PE Associate position at a London UMM/MF as an NYC-based analyst? Or should I first internally move to a London-based group of my bank for my 3rd analyst year and then recruit from there?
