Advice on what to do- apply for summer analyst or graduate analyst positions? (UK)
I am looking to see if anyone can offer any advice. I have had a quick scan of previous forums and can't seem to find an answer.
I am currently about to graduate from a strong semi-target university with an offer to do an MSc in Finance here next year. Up to the start of this year I had been heavily involved in elite sport with it taking up pretty much any additional time I had on top of my undergrad work (with international tournaments and training). This meant that I wasn't able to go for SA positions in my penultimate year although I did give it a go this year.
I got to the final round of several processes (two EB and one BB) even without much prior experience (no spring weeks etc). Although unsuccessful in those final rounds, I managed to secure an internship this summer at a smaller corporate finance advisory firm where work will mainly be M&A-based. This is better than nothing I guess.
I am wondering if going into my masters this year if I should be applying for SA positions again (now with a bit more experience) or be going for grad positions? I know grad roles are predominately filled up from previous SA cohorts which is why I'm leaning towards applying for summer 2022 positions. I have also heard that if I manage to delay the submission of my masters' dissertation to January (from September) then this will make me eligible for the summer positions.
Would really appreciate any help/advice!
