Applying to Companies as Sophomore without Intention of Pursuing Next Summer

I'm in a strange scenario, where I realized that I don't want to try for a finance internship next summer, but for the summer of 2021 instead. I've heard, however, that it might still be good to apply, as that shows "demonstrated interest". However, I'm not really well prepared for interviews (even supposing I get any, given that I'm a rising sophomore). Therefore, would you recommend I apply -- if I somehow do get an offer, I'll probably accept it, but my goal is mostly to get ready for the Summer 2021 recruiting season.
