As a freshman when should I apply for sophomore internships?

im a freshman currently and I was wondering when is the timeline for sophomore internships? I know you apply the year before the actual internship but I was wondering what actual months do you usually start applying? If you had a bad gpa (2.8) first semester of college will it become harder to get a internship sophomore year

6-9 months in advance.

Btw, with that bad GPA, try hard the second semester (made it to the Dean's List), then use that to leverage your profile to get an internship this summer. Retake some classes this summer while interning part-time. Don't do FT internship since you won't have time to retake classes.

Always start networking as soon as possible. This is the main thing that will get you into IB, even if you come from a target school.

Based off of what I have seen on other threads, I would start applying for 2018 summer internships asap. I believe most BB and EB have already completed their recruiting. Getting an internship at a boutique is probably still doable. I read on a different thread that there are rumors about BB already starting their recruiting process for 2019 SA positions. I am in a similar situation as you(sophomore, looking for internship) and I have been looking at PWM and FP&A internships in my home town for this summer, I will then try to leverage them into a NY internship for next summer, not ideal, I know. Hope this helped!

TL;DR -- start networking and applying for internships asap, recruiting may even be starting earlier.

yeah 6-12 months in advance is best. Also if your school has a mentor things or something like that that you can use to get to know people in the industry that is a great advantage because they can vouch for you.

so if you're currently a freshman you should start applying for internships from July-september? i thought it usually starts ,at the earliest, in the fall?

You can check when they start. Each place starts at a different time, no big variations, but just go to the websites of the banks you want to work at and they should say when recruitment starts.

You should spend your time working on your GPA so that when you apply for sophomore internships as a sophomore you will look more compelling. This summer take classes and try to find a local internship near your school or near home that you can do part time while taking classes at your university, online, or at a community college (make sure they will transfer). In the end, banks / firms want to see that you did something useful during your freshman summer - doesn't need to be a fancy internship.
