I work right by the Halal cart and I try to stay the hell away from it as much as possible. That shit burns at both ends. Tastes phenomenal, though. I try and stick to healthier options. Digg Inn is my spot.
EDIT: apparently there's a location around like 14th, where it's 4 for $1.99, but let's be honest - any standard chinese place charges 5-6 bucks for 4-5 dumplings

Original halal guys cart is disgusting if you care about cleanliness, I once saw them drop some food stuff on the ground and proceed to put just pick it up and put it back
Really depends on which area you are looking in. Hudson Eats food court is great if you're working in FiDi/BPC (GS). The taco place at Chelsea Market is awesome too
Love the Burger Joint. at the Meridien. My friend took me there for lunch on a slow day at work and it was fantastic. Then I got free pizza at work. That was a good day.

Awesome spot. Great networking too (if you're trying to get a job at Macquarie). Very limited seating and cash only so best not to go with a big group.
To-go: FreeFoods NYC. Pricey, but I think it's worth it
Sit-down: Grand Central Oyster Bar. Half a dozen oysters + Oyster Po-Boy + Martini = Perfection
What I actually end up eating: Chop't and Hale & Hearty
Swagon! Ladies and gentlemen. Fair enough. If you find pleasure in hanging out in the presence of heavy hitting dudes while you try to eat some lunch thats cool. Just be sure to wear your jorts. I, on the other hand, try to frequent places with (female) talent and good food. Networking with random people at a lunch spot is also bizarre.
Trying to not die so getting healthy. For those of you similarly concerned, what healthy lunch spots in the Midtown (East) do you go for lunch? Bonus: what do you do on Seamless for dinner?
Also, how are you guys tracking macros / what places that give you that info do you go to? It's pretty hard to do this accurately when, say, getting a diner on Seamless because the portion sizes are so variable / overlarge.
Depends on where in midtown you work. I find places like Dig Inn, Little Beet, or Roast Kitchen to be pretty healthy. Chopt or Sweet Green is also pretty decent and healthy as well.
Good place for informal interview lunch in NYC? (Originally Posted: 07/02/2015)
Hi Guys,
I arrived in NYC a few weeks ago for a SA role and have started to network. I work in midtown on the east side.. around 50th street. I can only find take out food, where would be a good place to invite someone I'm networking with for a lunch meeting? Ideally not too expensive..
This isn't something to worry about. If you're stressing now, just think how you're going to act in the meeting itself. I would pick any cafe/sandwich shop. It's just lunch.
Alternatively, you can just ask to grab coffee with whoever you decide to reach out to.
Go to 3rd. There further up you go the more options there are and they're usually on the streets instead of the avenues. Although when I worked at 51st, I ate a lot of taco bell.

NYC Monkeys-Where do you go to lunch? (Originally Posted: 02/06/2017)
With so many of the readers on this site in NYC and working in a fairly close area to each other, I thought it might be helpful to create a thread so everyone could bounce ideas off each other and maybe try something different than the standard Chipotle bowl. Personally, I'm not in NYC but have visited several times and my favorites are Cava, Dos Torros, and BareBurger.
Adrienne's Pizza Bar down by Stone Street was great
I'm talking about liquid. Rich enough to have your own jet. Rich enough not to waste time. Fifty, a hundred million dollars, buddy. A player. Or nothing.
See my Blog & AMA
From a different perspective, I think the best option for lunch here is just trying "that place" you've never been, NYC is one of the few places that constantly gives you that option.
Between the options you mentioned though, Dos Toros runs laps around all of them IMO, but really they're all just variants of the same "standard". If you're visiting from out of town, I'd recommend staying away from the chains and trying something unique, take a walk down Korea town (32nd street) or check out one of the pop up food halls/markets.
Fresh & Co. or Chop't. I envy you if you have enough time that you're not voraciously biting your nails when Jose' isn't chopping your salad fast enough.

Not in the City right now but that's exactly what I was thinking. Love that place, it's quick, cheap and delicious.

I had Halal guys twice and was sick of it. I like the Urbanspace near Grand Central.
Don't go down the rabbit hole of getting Halal guys sober while at work. It's a vicious downward spiral -- reserve it for late night drunk food only.
I'm a big fan of Naya Express for fast, (relatively) clean lunch to go on the every day grind.
Just Salad Hale & Hearty Lenwich fresh & co Zeytinz Schnippers
Yeah no way you can have halal guys more than twice a month without breaking your asshole.
is that a challenge?
r.i.p. prosperity dumpling in chinatown
but there are other spots where you can get 4 or 5 bomb ass dumplings for a buck
Drop some names!!

I used to live two blocks away from Properity Dumplings. Your post saddens me, did it recently close?
they were apparently cooking in a back alley with rats, but with that kind of quality idgaf if they're rat poop in the food

Del Frisco's on 49th street between 6th and 7th

Weak.
Any other recommendations near WTC?
Dos Toros at Brookfield or Parm
Hale & Hearty Fresh and Co Little Beet on days where I'm feeling a littler adventurous, I'll go to Num Pang or burger joint.
Second Dig Inn
Sweetgreen for salads.

Omar's Medi Kitchen on 55th.

Yours?
Biryani Cart @ 46th & 6th. Lunch = $6.

Prime hangout for Hedge Fund managers & heavy hitters during lunch hours.. and decent food to boot.
-HB Burger 43rd between 7th and 6th
Your favorite lunch spots are based on the presence of "hedge fun managers and heavy hitters". Pathetic.
Not really.
But when a lot of your meetings are at the same places, those places grow on you.
Pathetic right?

Nothing better than eating a whole pie to yourself of pepperoni and onion pizza from Patsy's.

So where do you monkeys go?
I go this place called Seamless, they literally have everything and you don't have to step outside,
Le District. Pound whiskey while I get my salad.
Adrienne's Pizza Bar down by Stone Street was great
Pastels, Barcadia, Four Seasons, Hubert's... the list goes on

Sweetgreen. All day erry day.
me too. love live insects in my food.
Dos Toros. The end..
Tried this place that is Chipotle style Indian food, Indikitch. I recommend giving that a try
I thought Indiekitch was awful.
them real monkeys eat bananas at their desks
.

Potbelly Sandwich
Dishes on Park & 50th
Great spot, however crowded as shit and God help you in getting the pay-by-weight food bar under $15. That turkey avocado sandwich though...
Blake & Todd
Europa Cafe, I get the quinoa bowls with chicken and veggies and some spicy korean sauce. P' Good
The Europa cafe by UBS, Barcap, Stifel and BNP is always slammed with analysts
Lunch is for wimps
Halal guys
Would go with Little Beet everyday if it wasn't $15. That said, I usually stick with Hale and Hearty or Fresh and co
Went double chicken on Friday, cause the chicken breasts they give are tiny. $20. Never again.
