Edit: They also have a NYC store if you're there. I've only had good experience with Meermin, probably the best bang for the buck shoes around, if you also factor in their sleek lasts.
Would I buy Allen Edmonds, Carmina, Crockett & Jones, etc. over them? On sale, sure. but if you need some affordable shoe with classic construction, sleek lasts, and decent materials, give Meermin a try.

Meermin are magical, best shoes I've bought. Hands down! Carmina is also good, looking to buy some of those later on.
How does Meermin leather feels, do they get better with age? Been looking for a new pair.
They do get better with age. Initially they'll tear the fook out of your heels but you can break them in easily. Make sure to condition and maintain the leather and you're good. The shoes are also good year which is a pretty good bang for your buck. If you can, visit a store in person and try them on.

Do yourself a favor and go with Allen Edmonds. Great quality shoes. You can look for factory seconds as well, which are much cheaper and you can hardly tell there are any blemishes on them.

I'd wait until they go on sale though. Usually in the spring they do a massive sale and you can pick up the (non factory seconds) bit loafers for around $200 IIRC
You are right, they do have a huge fathers day sale generally which is pretty damn good.
Appreciate the suggestion. I tried on some Verona IIs at my local AE store and really liked them. I'll be on the lookout for a sale.

The advantage of going in store is that you can look at the condition before purchasing.
Have a look at Ebay for Allen Edmonds. A lot of shoes on there that are factory seconds or new.
Allen Edmond has factory second and sales going on right now IIRC.

Jay Butler's are solid and just south of $200, but the dude who said to get AE and just pay the extra bucks for quality is spot on. I do like JB's as weekend sleds tho

Cole Haan makes a great knockoff of the AE/Gucci bit loafers. They stopped selling them online it seems but you can still pick up a pair from Amazon for $120. I wear them on days when it may rain or when I plan on trekking through the city on the weekends.
