Big 4 TAS/TS --> M7 MBA --> PE?

I was wondering what the likelihood is of making the transition to MM PE after finishing a M7 MBA program with previous Big 4 TAS/TS experience? I worked for 2.5 yrs in the Big 4 before being accepted to bschool. I will have my CPA if that makes any difference?

I want to know if I should even consider trying to pursue a PE summer internship, or if I should just try to get to a BB IB and make the switch after a few years as an associate. I will be 27 upon graduation if age is a factor.

Thanks in advance for all the help.

I've seen it done a few times. There are several here in the Southeast that have done it. A couple I also know in the West.

I've also seen people make it to the Director/Sr. Manager level at big 4 M&A go straight to lower MM PE.

Don't expect to be placed in a huge fund at first. I would target funds sub $500MM. >$500MM long-shot. >$1B near impossible.

There are bigger funds out there that hire a lot of Big 4 guys because one or more of the partners might have worked for them. Might take a little searching thought. Try Linkedin's advanced search.

tough transition. i'm at an m7 school and i think realistically, like the posters above mentioned, your best shot is at lower MM funds. there aren't many permanent openings. many that come thru off campus postings will hire for the summer without an intention to convert you full time. on campus recruiting for larger funds are very few - mainly secondaries, infrastructure, fof and you'll be competing with bankers/pe types.

Lots of Big 4 TAS alums at PE are in middle-office valuation roles. These jobs can be a pretty good deal in terms of hours/compensation but aren't necessarily a path to the deal team.

I've seen a lot more go TAS>Banking>PE or TAS>MBA>Banking>PE.

As stated above, it's easier at smaller, less-rigid funds (if they use a high-flying PE headhunter, you're likely SOL) and in regions where the market is less flooded with candidates who have banking experience.

There have been many great comebacks throughout history. Jesus was dead but then came back as an all-powerful God-Zombie.
