Big 4 vs. Big Bank career path
Hey guys, pretty new here, and I have read a bit about this topic on here but not as specific as my case. Currently attend an above average business school (ranked in the 60s). Accounting major/ Finance minor. Not a big bank target school but DEFINITELY a big 4 target school. In the northeast, so close proximity to both Boston and NY. I just started about a month ago interning at a PWM firm under a big bulge; my team is the top performing in the office, and one of the top 100 teams overall in the US. I originally only got involved in the internship just as a summer job, honestly, because I figured I was going to end up at a big 4 accounting firm anyways. However, I began to really enjoy the finance side of things. I do a lot of bloomberg work in terms of building and analyzing portfolios, and comparing different mutual funds or ETFs. I am nervous though, because I am at a non-target school, and don't want to not end up in IB/ private equity/ hedge fund, and end up in insurance/ corporate finance etc. and give up my chance at big 4 accounting. In terms of graduating, I am set to finish in 2018, although for accounting I would have my 150 credits for the CPA by 2019 (aka next year would be my big year for an IB internship). I have been in talks with RSM (McGladrey) and just finished up their leadership conference (did this one a year early, would do the big 4 next year) so I may be receiving an internship offer for next summer in the near future. If that is the case, I definitely need to decide what path I want to take sooner rather than later. In terms of connections, I would say I am definitely ahead of most other kids at my school. Any input would greatly be appreciated, as I am really torn as to what path to take and don't want to end up making the wrong choice.
