Breaking into Agriculture Private Equity from Industry?
Hello all,
I am currently 26 years old and and have 3 years of experience in the agricultural industry. Worked with farmland management for one year and have been working with AgTech since. My bachelor's was in Agricultural Business. I have realized that tech is not my true interest whatsoever, and have a strong desire to transition to Ag PE. I would consider my experience valuable, just unfortunately not relevant to finance. My only finance experience is limited to college coursework and basic financial statement work while at farmland management company. I am considering taking CFA Level 1 in December, to build a knowledge base as well as show some financial credibility.
Looking for input on the steps I should take, and if CFA is the right route. Not really considering business school at this point, as I feel that getting relevant work experience sooner would be a better move than being 28 with no finance experience (and in debt).
Worth noting that I'm tri-lingual (Portuguese, Spanish), which could be of value to firms investing in South America. I also have international agriculture experience from Brazil.
Thanks in advance.
Arlon sounds like it would be of interest to you.
You could even look into corp dev roles at major ag companies or look for jobs on the ventures side of the major ag companies.
