career change?
Hey all,
Another twist on a topic thats been brought up.. I had been working as a commercial appraiser mostly for myself as of recent. Part of me has always wanted to transition to asset/management/management/acquisitions. Wasnt successful in finding something in my current location. Well, anyways Ive needed to move to a different state and am pretty much starting over. I cant decide if to continue doing what I have till now and within that to work for someone else first to gain that experience or skip that step, as I can probably figure out what I need to know in a short amount of time.
Part of me still wants to transition to the other careers I mentioned(not only in corporate setting). One thing Ill mention is that a corporate background or impressive resume is not important to me, nor am I trying to land such a job long term. I don't have the schools(just a basic bachelors),or big name employers on my past 6-7 years of working. At the same time I have good knowledge thats comparable enough to those that do. If I wanted based on my experience, I could probably land a job at one of the top real estate places as an appraiser because of my experience(not schooling).. In terms of something else id probably have to start further down the ladder, yet Id still love to get in on those other careers... Perhaps I havent articulated all sides of this question though solid advice of course is helpful to do this the right way...
Seems like you answered your own question.
Option 1: Do what you're good at but don't love, be higher up on the ladder
Option 2: Switch to AM, Acquisitions, etc. because you love it, be lower on the ladder
Which do you think is better for your quality of life and long term success? That's really a personal question nobody can answer except for you.
