CFA level 2 looking for a job

Hi,
I need some advice regarding how i should go and look for a job in NY or USA.What should be my strategy in job search ,where should i start looking for a job.
I am an ACCA finalist with bachelor degree in Applied accounting from Oxford brookes university London.I did all this in Pakistan through British council. It was a dual pro gramme where you get a degree from the university as well you ACCA.Then i got to know that i will be moving to usa with my family,i wanted to do CFA and because of coming to USA i did my CFA level 1 and level 2 in just 1 year time.
I just to work at a boutique investment bank in Lahore Pakistan.I worked with them for 1 year and then i had to come to USA this january.
Now the problem is that i am getting few very few interviews calls from BB one was a Morgan Stanley interview but i dont feel like i have the right experience right now and on top of that i dont have the liberty of networking here in usa.I dont know anyone here who would recomend me for a interview.
So i need help what should i do how should i go for my job search.where should i apply.
I did make few models at my last job using DCF,multiples and DVM but i still feel that i need to improve my excel skills and also i dont know where should i apply,Equity reasearch,M&A or fixed income.Because i totally love all these things.

Please help me.Thanks

Few things:

  • Having passed CFA Level I & II, you should realize that you are a not a "CFA level 2". People over here take this stuff pretty seriously, and charterholders will ding you.
  • Your level of English doesn't support a position in ER - potentially not even in IBD.
  • The ACCA is not very well respected or recognized in the states - far less than the ACA or the CPA. Either way, accounting designations are not respected for the purposes of banking.
  • It's a shitty market, and you're not the ideal candidate. You went to an unknown school, in a foreign country, and you resemble a lot of international students that are currently studying in the US.

Don't get too discouraged, but realize that in this market - aiming for just BB IBD/ER is unlikely to yield sufficient fruit. Most of those positions are recruited out of school (associate after MBA, analyst after undergrad). I could suggest getting a US MBA, but without much practical experience, you're not likely to end up at a good school, and it's an expensive whoopsie to make if you go and end up unemployed.

Build up your English, and look at potentially settling for a boutique/something related until you build up the required network.

Hope that helps.

most people in the US can't even get a decent job in IB, ER, FIR... There are always some who will make it from your position, but I don't think it'll come from planning events based on luck..

The best thing you can do is to do whatever you're doing right now. Do it better, continue networking, and be completely prepared for that one lucky shot, if you get it.

This is what my mentor told me. Don't be so caught up on making it into front office finance. Just do good wherever you are and your chance will come one day too.

Thanks for your responses.I want to know when and how should i apply for a program in these boutique banks? Is there an application deadline? Secondly, a cousin of mine told me that i should apply for a short course at any university,as this would help me get a job easily because financial firms do come and meet students for recruitment. I want to know how true is this information? Will doing a short course actually benefit me in getting a job quickly? Thanks in advance
