Client Service Associate/Analyst
hey guys,
wanted to get your thoughts on a Client Service Associate...
is this considered FO/MO/BO type of role??
Also what would be the career progression (exit ops etc)
thanks
advancing a career path as a Client service associate
Client services is an administrative role or support role. All of the work will be clerical. But you can use client services to advance your career.
If client services are your only option then take the opportunity and use it to your advantage. First, make sure you are entering the division you want to be in long term.
During your time as a client service associate, you can pursue a form of secondary education. After some time of establishing credibility and rapport, start
I went through Client Service, started in Jan, got my MBA and within 2.5 years was able to go right into an Associate position. Just make sure you are working Client Service in the division that you want to move up in (PWM, IBD, S&T, etc)

I highly recommend going in through the back door (Client Service) rather than marinating in the waiting room with everyone else that is trying to get in through the front door(Analyst/Associate roles). I went through Client Service, started in Jan, got my MBA and within 2.5 years was able to go right into an Associate position. Just make sure you are working Client Service in the division that you want to move up in (PWM, IBD, S&T, etc) and get a graduate degree while you are there. Also keep in mind that you have to be smooth about it. Don't start a Client Service position in June and by October you're already sending your CV to MDs. I have seen many people screw up their chance by begging and harassing big wigs too soon. Gain credibility first THEN network THEN start calling on those connections.
thanks for your input...
just wondering, what type of skills are transferable...b/c at first sight the skills don't look too transferable..
modeling, pitch book, deals vs talking with clients, doing the "operational" work for a client's portfolio
^ I think the big thing he did was get an MBA. that will allow you to platform yourself to a whole new set of ops.
How would you prepare yourself for Client Services interview Vs IB interview
Can anyone leave more insight on you made the transition/details of the position. I'm interviewing for a position right now and I'd like to learn more/where you're at now. I would've PM you but I just made an account

CSA at BB, what exactly are the day to day tasks, and where can you go after? is this equity sales at all

The linked I directed you to, are CSA working under FAs... CSAs on the trading floor, definitely haven't that before and it's definitely not an equity sales position lol... I can tell you that much. BUT if its under the FAs, I think as you get more responsibility, it may lead to getting licensed.

I realize this is an entry level position, I'm just trying to gain some insight. I'm assuming it's back office. What are the responsibilities, opportunities to network into another group, exit opps with an MBA, ability to transition into IBanking, pay etc. Thanks
Knew someone in client services - basically just troubleshooting ad hoc demands retail clients have, not sure if you even have any exposure to the investments side.
Think of this like an admin role but for a wealth of different clients - person I knew said everyone hated their job and were buying lotto tickets regularly.
If this is the only opportunity you have into a bank would you take it?
Take it, you can turn the client facing part into a marketing ops later on
It's a bullshit role, it's back office. Administrative work.
so would you suggest taking this and networking into a better group or pursuing a masters in management/mfin one of those newer/specific degrees to break in. I planned on getting an MBA anyway and people have told me its better to be in the backdoor than standing outside
If it's the only job you have, take it, it will only help with masters recruiting. In addition to going to school, rip off as many names/numbers as you can, network ahead of time as well. MBA is going to require several years of work experience, so hold off on that
Will brand name matter for this type of position to an MBA adcom or do they not care because it isn't relevant Ibanking experience. Let's say for example I transitioned into another group from here, say real estate underwriting or credit analysis (I know two random groups), would that be looked upon more favorably to pursue an MBA and break into Ibanking?
