Hope you guys can help. I'm looking to get into IB in trading or as a financial analyst. Is it effective to send resumes via internet or mail? I'm a 3rd year Duke transfer to a non-target southern school with a 3.9 GPA. What is the most effective way to get recongized?

Transfered from Duke w/ 3.0 to be closer to girlfriend. Currently have 3.9 at non-target school. Think I'm stuck w/ 2nd tier banks? Thanks for the advise.
i would email and follow up with cold calls if you get no response. its how I got my job coming from a non-target
I agree - email with cold calls should help you get a foot in a door.
it works... you just have to be persistent and aggressive but NOT annoying.
try your school's alumni directory first. i've found that alums are generally happy to help provided you're friendly and not a total prick.
You should probably concentrate on researching and specifically targeting a few firms rather than sending the same cover letter and resume, or with mminor differences, to dozens. When cold calling you have to differentiate yourself from the crowd.
Try to sneak into the info sessions at target schools nearby and grab some cards.
During B-School I attended many info sessions at nearby target schools. It's definitely effective. However, word to the wise, respect the schools and their students and be discrete. Best to go alone and not with a friend or friends. The benefit is that if you present yourself well at these sessions and ask intelligent Qs, folks will recognize and give you credit for being driven to do something proactive.
She's right on that. Just don't make a scene that will annoy others. I attended one such info session with RBC Capital Markets and a group of students were talking to a 3rd year analyst when a much older guy cuts in introducing himself and saying he's not from the uni blah blah blah.
Yes he was impressive and the 3rd year analyst simply said "If you got the goods, we'd like to meet you, just sneak your app in to the pile."
But his no no was making too much of a scene from which campus personnel threw him out. Hahaha...
