Cover Letters / Referrals
I've met with a MD at a MM bank who would like to help me get my foot in the door. His group's on a hiring freeze. He wrote me a recommendation and submitted it to his HR group.
I recently found a position (not in his group) that I plan on applying to and he told me to mention that we've been in contact. Is it inappropriate if I title my cover letter as
'"Joe Smith" (MD XYZ Dept) Referral"
I thought this might give me a better shot of someone reading my cover letter. Thoughts?
If he has written you a referral and told you to mention him, I see no reason why not to say that in your email title.
Have the MD refer it with this note:
Hello,
I'm a Managing Director and this guy is on my team as soon as the freeze is over. Thank you.
Regards, - MD
p.s. suck it
^^ this.
He did not refer me to the position. He recommended me in general. Is it unethical to say I was referred to the position by him?
I'm applying for XXXXX position. Attached is my resume and cover letter. I have been referred to you by YYYYY.
Kind Regards, -ZZZZZ"
...and now you're not lying. Let their heads draw the conclusion you want.
