Credit Modelling?
Hey guys,
I was wondering how useful is credit scoring and modelling in the finance world?
I might get to move to a position that will allow me to do this sort of thing for a bank that does business lending at around 2m+ but outside of a few niche roles in commercial banking involving loans and maybe mortage backed securities, I don't see much in terms of exit ops. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
It's a very formulaic and templated process, so the primary skill you learn is data crunching.
You could use it to simply get your feet wet in the real world for a year or two and then move on, but I wouldn't expect there to be a vast array of exit ops.
Ah nuts would there be any areas in levFi, M&A, or Fixed income or anything that might look at this sort of experience at least in a positive light if the modelling were a bit more indepth statistically speaking? Or would I be much better off with a gig doing evaluations involving cash flows.
Im a credit analyst right now. Exit ops exist, but not as many as IB analysts. Most of what I have heard is Leverage Finance. Most banks train you to become officers one day, which is not what I am looking for. I'm beginning to make the switch to IB, and if I can do that without going to get my MBA I will jump in a heart beat.
Credit is a lot of data cruncing, and often it takes FOREVER to get a deal approved because not all the details are there, even if the missing info has no effect on if they deal will get approved or not. Not fast paced what so ever, which makes the day drag on. I feel like after a year I have learned all I can from credit and want to move to IB.
Any monkey can input numbers into a template, but the person who stands out in credit is the one who recognizes what this info means and provide sound write ups about whats going on.
