Basically, I met a guy at an alumni event for a school I'm considering transferring to. Introduced myself and talked about his job, however pussied out from asking for his business card because we had literally only talked for 3 minutes and there was a queue behind me.
Anyways, I want to reach out to him. Should I send him a cold-email saying and mention I met him at the event, or should I do a literal cold-email and not mention I had ever met him?

Man, of course you should write that you met him and just didnt have the chance to ask for his contact. Reckon you are 200% more likely to get a response if he knows you've spoken to him in real life
So something along the lines : "sorry I didn't have a chance to ask you for your contact, but I found you on linkedin" that wouldn't look creepy?
don't say that you have met him, but mention that you have seen him around town and know his family .. 60% of the time, it works everytime
