Emailing recruiters...

Hey all,

I'm a junior Finance/Accounting major from a non-target (U of Pittsburgh), and am preparing to send out resumes to recruiters expressing interest in Summer Analyst positions. My question though is this…

I have a cover letter for every bank. Should I use that as the body of my emails? I’ve heard give a brief background of yourself and attach your cover letter/resume, but being that I am from Pitt, I doubt they’d even look at a short background, and almost feel the need to use my entire cover letter. Further, I would hate to be redundant by using similar things in my email body that I do in my cover letter (I don’t know what I would really say that could be different).

Any suggestions/past experiences of what worked?

Thanks. Also, if anyone feels as though they could be of more help by actually seeing my cover letter, send me a PM and I'd be glad to send it over to you.

I would use an abbreviated version of your cover letter. Simply tell them the high-level stuff. Basically who you are, why your contacting them, and (in 2-3 sentences) what your value proposition is. Leave all the gritty details of your past jobs etc for the attached cover letter. Nobody is going to read a full page email, they will go directly to the attachments anyway. Good luck.
