Follow-Up Etiquette
Is it appropriate to follow up with the HR point of contact one week after a 2nd round interview? Or keep waiting?

Depending on the size of the company, one week isn't a huge amount of time. Maybe they are still going through their shortlist or interviewing others? I have had feedback up to three weeks after a 2nd round and nobody apologized for the delay or anything.
It’s a medium sized company but the team is small, about 5 people. They actually posted an application listing right after my second interview so I imagine they are conducting interviews with other applicants currently. I applied informally after I made a connection so I got in before the other apps

I wouldn't follow up before 14 business days have passed. It depends on many factors though. My applications are at large firms so 2-3 weeks is nothing.
