Freshman Seeking Advice

Hi all! I have been following the forum for some time and finally this is my first post. I am studying in National University of Singapore(best in Singapore), majoring in Industrial and Systems Engineering, first year. I am under an elite programme of Engineering Faculty which offers an accelerated pathway. Therefore I would be graduating in only 3 years with honours degree(instead of 4 years). I applied for several intern/pre-intern programmes in BBs. However, I am sort of rejected by all of them. They do not even give the first round interview. So I am wondering where I went wrong and hope to get some advise from you guys!

some background: GPA 5.0/5.0, Dean's Lister(basically awarded to those with high GPA), No previous working experience. The elite programme I mentioned above is basically for the top 3% of the whole cohort of the Faculty of Engineering. Technically no leadership positions in school since I am just a freshman after all, but did join many societies as an EXCO member.

Also, could you guys elaborate more about how to network, especially in Singapore, where culture is quite different from the States I guess.
