If you're an "Associate 2" at PE firm doing LBOs then don't waste your time on a rotation program. Their exit opportunities consist of mostly FP&A roles with limited comp and potential. Just try to grab a senior manager/group manager role directly if you're interested in CorpFin/CorpStrat, preferably at a big tech company, or go the startup route and try to land at a Stripe, Airbnb, Roblox, Coinbase, DoorDash, Palantir, Snowflake, etc. type of company pre-ipo with a great equity vesting package.
^That would have been my goal after getting into the rotation program. Good to know that it's possible to jump directly into that. Do you have any tips on recruiting/positioning for corporate finance manager-type roles? I am looking to move out of PE to enjoy more of a WLB with fairly good comp and hopefully some travel as well.
It should be very easy to switch from PE to Corporate Finance. Update your resume to suit CorpFin, and make sure you understand the FP&A cycle, forecasting, and budgeting on a high level before any interviews. Check out: linkedin.com/in/paulleeb He's done something very similar to what you're looking to do. Understand though that your compensation potential is limited in these types of roles unless you can climb the ladder or get some great equity package that explodes in value.
