FT Consulting Reduced?

Question

I'm an undergrad at a target school, engineering major, 3.8+ GPA. My summer plan is to work in S&T at a mid-BB. However, I'm very interested in consulting and plan on applying to MBB.

Given the news such as interns receiving automatic offers and perhaps downsized hiring, what are the expectations for how recruiting will go? How much smaller might FT classes be?

I realize there's little I can do to control that stuff and this generally won't affect my preparation, but I'm curious to know generally what to expect in terms of competition

If you can predict the course of C19, then you might have an answer.

MBB already hire most interns, so that alone won't massively change things over normal years.

The market might be garbage, and they might expect it to continue and in turn might reduce their starting classes. Alternatively they might see the light at the end of the tunnel and increase their hiring to make up for lost time (they've all cut pretty hard on laterals for example).

Excel at your internship, set yourself up for multiple options, and do your best. No one knows what's going to happen around this crisis.
