While it is definitely not ideal to not have a role this summer it will definitely be okay depending on how you use it. Definitely reach out everywhere to see if you can land something. if not, you have a good role coming up in the fall so the big thing here is to use this summer wisely. Buy a modeling package, lead volunteering for a local charity you are passionate about, travel, etc. That way when the inevitable question comes up in interviews about why you did not take a role, you can explain how you wanted to use that time to cultivate your technical skills on your own to add value best in your fall internship, and that you also wanted to do (insert an interesting thing not related to finance) because of (whatever your reasons may be but you can spin this a bunch of ways). Just don't sit around and you will be okay. Enjoy your summer!

Thank you for the response, appreciate the advice! I'm also curious as to which certificates or modelling packages I should do. People on here seem to disregard all certificates as useless but I was wondering if I should do the Bloomberg Markets Concepts and something else. Would these help in recruiting for next year?
