I recently was recommended to a top construction/development firm in my (second tier) market for an assistant PM role. The role is not commensurate with my experience, but it'd be a great shop to work - adding new markets, established company with a great reputation among investors, etc. - so I took the interview.
My hope was that the meeting would turn into one for a higher level job once they saw my resume and skill set, which was exactly what happened. They will be looking for a PM in the next few weeks, but will be going through a national recruiting firm. While this is great news, it also means that I will be put up against people with more experience as a PM - I've worked in weird PE/Consulting role for the past two years, but was previously an assistant PM for a small developer fresh out of school for a few years in 2009. Between now and then, I worked a 2 year stint as an analyst for a commercial lender.
My question for you guys is, how do I best leverage my diversity of experience to get this role? How do I downplay the fact that I have not been in boots-on-the-ground development for 4 years?
