Can’t speak to recruiting but I’m sure if you go/went to Cornell you’ll have a leg up on the competition for obvious reasons.
You can see monthly returns on the GLRE IR page. Tl;dr - not turning things around. I've noticed analyst turnover is between 1-2 years now. I'd imagine there is still some value in the brand name (or not, happy to be corrected) which people join for, but otherwise don't know beyond that.
How high is analyst turnover in HFs? Aren’t they usually pretty high across the board?
No you would expect a stable team at a longer term focused, single manager like Greenlight. One of the reasons why seats are rare at places like this and highly sought after.
Thanks. How do you generally think about joining HFs that are struggling but had good performance a few years back? Is it too risky of a move?
I think it depends on various factors including stability of capital, reputation of the firm, reasons for under-performance, etc.
For every Pershing that bounced back in their own way (aum is still half of what it used to be), the path is littered with dead carcasses at an obscene ratio.
It's not a good risk reward trade off.
