Help! Advice on MA Economics to break into finance.
Here goes my first post. I studied economics at a top Canadian university and graduated in the top 5 of the class. I have received an offer to go to one of the top MA in economics programs in Canada (UBC, one of the 'big fours'). Since experience has taught me that it's better to prepare early, or you might just be left stranded without a job after graduation. I was wondering how sexy (or not-so-sexy) a master in economics will look in terms of finding a finance job (IB, ER, etc.) in the Canadian (or possibly, the American) job market.
I have been offered a handful of interviews ranging from (mostly) management consulting and sometimes ER, but none of them has led to a real job yet. I was wondering if any kind soul would dish out some helpful advice on how I should spend this extra year in UBC, or any career guidance in general.
My appreciation in advance, and good luck to all of you out there.
