High school senior interested in finance. How would I go about getting any sort of finance internship for the summer?
Before you all start flaming me, I get that I'm probably not going to land anything because I have 0 connections. And I'm fine with that, I'll just get a normal teen job and rest up before college. However, I'm still pretty undecided on whether I truly want to pursue finance and I would love any sort of internship to at least introduce me to the industry. I'd also like to practice networking. I've heard that I should be targetting PWM firms or boutique IBs to maximize my chances, but I have no clue which ones I should be looking at. I live near Boston for reference. Also, when cold calling/emailing, how do I approach it without sounding like a total creep/try-hard? I'd appreciate any advice.
Cold email all the firms that are near you, the small ones. at this stage of your life, the bigger firms won't give you much thought. Not that there is anything wrong with you, they just prefer kids who are in college. Any PWM firm, reach out to all the ones you can find.
Here's an email template I used when I cold emailed:
Hello, My name is So and So and I'm a business student at X School. I wanted to touch base and introduce myself. I'm highly motivated to work in (whatever field) and I believe I could be a strong addition to the team. I would love to talk about opportunities at [insert the name of the firm] at a time that fits your schedule. Hope to hear soon.
Best,
Your Name
DM me if you have any additional questions.

sure thing
Definitely stick to emails, above format is great, I would suggest not cold calling bankers, it will most likely piss them off (learned from experience).
Hopefully you can meet with a few or set up call times, then you can see if their journey to where they are is something you want to follow or learn from. Most are happy to give advice to current students (especially future alumni) about how to get started in the industry.
Good luck!
