How can i recruit/job-search long-distance to Silicon Valley?

I live in Hong Kong.
I want to explore tech jobs (probably corp dev and VC) in Silicon Valley.
It is really difficult to network long-distance.
Anyone have any tips on how to do it?
I'm often told, by alumni in the Bay, that I need to take a trip out to SV to meet people.
But even when I go there, I find I'd really need to live there in order to slow-grow a network and find a job.
Any advice?
My background is PE, and it is not exactly every tech co that has a corp dev arm.
I had also previously been head of IR for a publicly listed mobile Internet company.
