How do I get into IBD with this background?

I came from a state school and worked on Wall Street in Operations/IT for the past 7 years.
I am in my late 20's, and recently got accepted to a Top 10 target mba program with a strong finance program.

I want to transition into IBD. Long term, I want to do PE/VC, and I think this is the most logical transition since PE/VC is impossible without any experience. IBD can atleast make this transition somewhat possible. Without any experience whatsover, what should I do over the summer (May/June/July/) to help me get a summer analyst program? (Yes, the cards are against me).

Here are some of my thoughts.

  1. Retake gmat? - I have less than a 700, and not sure if I want to go through that pain again.

  2. Look for premba internships? - no likely to happen without prior experience.

  3. Take accounting101 and microecon at community college as a refresher? - I want to keep up with the kids at school, and try to get a high gpa so I don't get weeded out because my grades are not high enough.

  4. Take a valuation/modeling course? - atleast this will help me brush up on my technicals if I get an interview.

Since time is short, I want to be efficient.

What are your thoughts? Thanks.

iPhoned - I worked at a bb before my current position. Now, im a at middle market bank, but im on the capital markets back office side.

Juwanna - how did these folks who got jobs without prior experience differentiate themselves?

Also, any tips in regards to what to do over the summer?
