How is Deutsche Bank for S&T?

I've noticed that Deutsche Bank's S&T division (FICC) has been doing relatively well this year, much improved in terms of revenue and profit margin for the first two quarters. I'm sure COVID-19 has a big role in that, but still.

So, how are they? Any desks that stand out in particular?

hey i know this is old but curious to see what ur updated opinion on DB is. what desks do you think are best and where would one go to do more research on what the top desks are; league tables don't seem very helpful anymore

no problem. DB is a fine bank and a great place to begin your career. the same is true for most bulge bracket banks. there will be some desks that are stronger than others but that is the case everywhere. for traditional S&T league tables will not be helpful and there are very few resources out there to help you gauge and understand the "quality" of desks from the outside. the best bet unfortunately will be to speak to people directly and paint your own understanding. as it relates to the "best" desks - it is helpful to understand the different asset classes first (what are you actually interested in - structuring? credit? investment grade? distressed? rates? FX? munis? real estate? structured products?) and then once you know which assets pique your interest the most, try to figure out how you would fit within that desk (sales? trading? structuring? research (not all have this option)).

DB is known as a leveraged finance and credit shop. the majority of the structuring desks and credit desks are very strong (DB calls out its distressed business very often, you can read more about it online) but i believe they have had strong performance in all of their S&T businesses (rates, FX, and others).

good luck.
