How should I structure and spend my time at college?
Hi, I'm an incoming freshman at a tier 2 IB Target (Ross/Stern/Berkley). I'm a little concerned about time management and how I should set my priorities, any advice is appreciated.
My question is if aiming for a top 5% GPA (3.9+) has a significant extra benefit over let's say a 3.75, for landing top BB/EB IBD jobs? My understanding so far is that most people who score above 3.9 have to cut time from other activities and having fun in general.
Should I focus on maintaining a 3.7+ and spend the rest of my time on networking/extracurriculars/internships/having fun, or is it of higher benefit to cut time from other stuff to maximize my GPA?
Sorry if I sound naive, looking for advice here. Thanks in advance!
A 3.9 gives you virtually no competitive advantage over the 3.5 kid if you’re a socially awkward weirdo who can’t hold a conversation for longer than 2 minutes. Get good grades, but not at the expense of losing out on all other aspects of the college experience for a marginally higher chance of getting tossed in the “Yes” pile. Get good grades, get involved, and most importantly, get laid. I promise it’s not rocket science
Got it, appreciate it.
Ultimately do what will make you most fulfilled. Don’t want to look back on your college experience and regret not taking advantage of everything available to you academically and socially. Good luck bro
I spent most of my time drinking, playing video games and unsuccessfully trying to get laid would recommend

All good. However you best see fit I would think
Gotcha, thank you!

Get laid my dude, you won't have much time when you break into IB
Next time would prolly be when you reach senior associate/VP or go back to school for MBA
