Is Business School Worth It?

As a background, I am a 1st year underwriting analyst at one of the top RE companies in the US doing debt and structured finance. I plan on doing this for a few years max before trying to move into PE or go to the RE Division of a large bank in the US or internationally.

Recently I was talking to my dad about going to business school. He is a very active alumni at one of the top 5 business schools in the US and wants me to go there too. I know I'm in a very fortunate position to have this legacy, I'm just not sure if it is as important to go to business school as it use to be. I am definitely not opposed to it and actually think it would be a great opportunity, but I wanted to hear peoples thoughts on if its worth it or not. Would it help my career, or would working hard for those two years help advance me more? Is the cost worth it?

Does legacy help for business school? First I've ever heard of it brought up but makes sense I guess.

From what I've heard from my dad and his business school friends it does to a certain extent. I think what helps the most is that he was on one of the boards there and has been an active alumni and donor since he graduated.

Love, abigreguy
