Is this email acceptable to send to an MD (need responses ASAP to send timely follow-up)
Dear xxxxx,
I hope you are doing well.
It was great meeting you at the (insert bank) information session.
I thought it was really interesting that you had (insert semi-personal story he told here). Unfortunately, I had to go take a midterm, so I could not stay to hear the rest of the story.
I've actually been meaning to reach out for a few weeks. I spoke to yyyyyy and zzzzz, and zzzz had suggested I send you an email. I am going to be in New York City the week of Thanksgiving, and was wondering if you would be able to spare 10-15 minutes to speak with me then. I would love to hear about your experience working in investment banking--specifically, in (insert group name).
Again, it was great meeting you. I know you are incredibly busy, so I very much appreciate any time you can spare to chat.
Sincerely,
Big-Shot Hopeful
Is it a bad thing to ask for someone's time during the Thanksgiving period? I don't know enough about the holiday to be certain.
Other than that, it sounds fine to me.
Thank you for the response. and it's only bad if I try and coerce him into not seeing his family so eh I can network with him ahha. I'm usually not too worried about my emails, but this particular person is someone who makes or breaks whether I get an internship or even an interview at this firm
Leave out the part about leaving for a midterm and line about meaning to reach out for a few weeks. Suggest something specific, like coffee, not just a vague "would you be able to speak with me for 10-15 minutes" - otherwise it's not clear that you want to meet in person. You should also leave the action on him by ending with something specific. Forget the "I know you are incredibly busy" bit and just close with "Thank you again, and please let me know which day would be most convenient for us to get together to chat. Sincerely, Future BSD"
He's like the global head of (insert group) do you think He'd get coffee with me?
What did you have in mind? I assumed coffee, but just replace that with whatever you were hoping for.
I'd throw out the days you are available because if someone said 'the week of Thanksgiving' I would immediately dismiss them, it's a lot different if you say 'Tuesday the 25th' or whatever.
I've chatted at length with people in similar positions, often people really high up actually really like taking the time to help out college kids if they aren't too busy. Give it a go and see what happens - just keep in mind you probably aren't the only person emailing him after that info session
Ya Haha, he basically said no... but its all good.
