Leaving A Back Office Job

When leaving a Back Office job to a Front Office job, a friend has told me that it is not wise to tell your manager that you are "leaving for a better opportunity", because god forbid you get fired or something and have to go back to your former group, they will ding you in the interview process since you may just jump ship again when the market clears up.

Instead, I was told, tell them that you are leaving to go back to school - since that is understandable and nobody can look down upon you for trying to improve yourself.

euuu no... everybody knows that BO is BO and FO is FO...what if you move from BO to FO (i did) within the same firm? are you gonna lie and say youre leaving? If you were a good employee in the back, then i assume you had a good and honest enough relationship that would not oblige you to bullshit about leaving for education. tell the truth..just say your going to pursue different opportunities...
