MBB -> PE
I'm an undergrad at a mid tier ivy (not wharton). I'm interning at MBB this next summer. I come from a math and engineering background. I'm thinking PE might be something I could be interested in. How hard would it be to get that with a 3.7 and some cool experiences but no finance experiences. Would it be feasible to land a Blackstone type company from my position with the right interview prep? Also, would MBB intern on my resume carry me to an interview or would I need to network intensively?
Are you referring to joining PE right out of undergrad? If so, my 2c, I'd strongly encourage going to MBB (or IB) for 2-3 years to get more formal training, then pursuing a PE associate program. Analyst programs (right out of undergrad) are more hit/miss and often weaker on development. PE from MBB is quite traditional (moreso than straight from undergrad), and your background sounds well-suited.
This isn't true if he's looking at programs like Blackstone, Warburg, KKR, etc
I'll be honest. I know almost nothing about PE. This is just a common exit and I was thinking it might be worth trying so I was trying to gauge whether this was a viable option for me. Ik ppl get KKR and BX rarely out of my undergrad tho
Also, IB does not seem very appealing to me. Should this be a sign that I won't like PE?
